GenAI

What doe GenAI mean?

Generative AI

GenAI is a kind of artificial intelligence (AI) that specializes in generating various types of information, including text, images, videos, and audio. Examples of GenAI systems include large language model chatbots, such as OpenAI ChatGPT (CGPT) and Microsoft Copilot, and text-to-image generation systems, such as OpenAI DALL-E and Stable Diffusion.

As advancing technology in the late 2010s made GenAI systems possible, GenAI gained prominence in the early 2020s. Users across various industries, including product design, sales and marketing, software development, customer service, and fashion, integrated GenAI capabilities into their workflows.

For example, software developers may prompt ChatGPT to write code for a program that enables certain features. Another example is a fashion designer prompting Stable Diffusion to create a dress based on several parameters, such as color and material.

GenAI controversy

While many users have embraced GenAI, critics point out the dangers of adopting technology that mimics and replaces humans. In some cases, including the compilation of information without citing the human sources that collected it, legal action has been taken to regulate the use of GenAI.
