CB

CB has 2 meanings
1. What is a CB in football?

Cornerback

In football, a CB is a cornerback, which is a defensive back (DB) that typically guards a wide receiver. The CB's primary job is to defend receivers, which are typically wide receivers (WR), tight ends (TE), and running backs (RBs).

CB is considered one of the most challenging positions in football to play. It requires tremendous athleticism to keep up with a receiver, guard well, and tackle well. Additionally, football leagues, especially the National Football League (NFL), often want high-scoring games (for entertainment purposes), which means they let receivers push off on CBs (to catch passes) and penalize CBs for the same aggressiveness.

A CB usually lines up several yards off the line of scrimmage across from a WR who lines up on the other side of the line. The CB then has to try to cover the WR as they run their route, then deflect or intercept the pass thrown to the WR. If the WR catches the ball, the CB has to tackle him to minimize the yards gained (YAC).

Many talented CBs have played football, but they usually don't have a long shelf life because the position requires a lot of speed, agility, and strength. Some of the best CBs include Deion Sanders, Champ Bailey, Charles Woodson, Darrelle Revis, and Rod Woodson.

Example
