Small dent or scratch

A ding is a dent or scratch in a material, such as a metal part on grill or a plastic piece of a speaker. Most people use it as a noun, but some may also use it as a verb, e.g., "He was grounded after he dinged his dad's car."

Ding is an informal term, but people in professional fields, like engineering or automotive repair still commonly use it.
