Esports competitions are those in which professional gamers battle each other in video games. Most popular competitive games, including League of Legends (LoL), Starcraft 2 (SC2), Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), Overwatch, and more, feature a thriving esports scene.

Within the span of a couple decades, esports have become big business. For example, LoL's 2018 Mid-Season Invitational tournament drew an online audience of 60,000,000 viewers, who watched players compete for a prize pool worth over $1.3 million.
