Fetch

What does fetch mean?

Cool

If fetch had ever happened, it would have meant "cool" or "awesome." The term originated within the 2004 movie Mean Girls, in which character Gretchen Weiners attempted to drop fetch into conversations, hoping her new slang would catch on among her peers.

Fetch didn't catch on among Gretchen's classmates, but it still enjoys some mild use in the real world. More popular, though, is the phrase "stop trying to make 'word' happen," which is a play on alpha-female Regina George's demand that Gretchen "stop trying to make fetch happen."

Example

Check out my new skirt. Isn't it cute?
Aww, that is so fetch!
Wait ... are you still trying to make 'fetch' happen?

Gretchen, stop trying to make fetch happen. It's not going to happen
