Techies, inventory managers, and others use FIFO to stand for "first in, first out." FIFO is a method of processing and disposing of items in a queue. Under FIFO, the first item to enter a queue is also the first item to get processed and leave the queue.
For example, a printer that processes documents using FIFO will always print the first item sent to it before later items. (Yes, even if the later item is just one page, and the first item is one hundred. We've all been there.) Or, a restaurant might use FIFO to ensure they always use their oldest foodstuffs first.
