Final Four

What are the Final Four in sports?

Last four competitors

In sports, the "Final Four" are the last four competitors (people or teams) still playing in a tournament. People may use it in various sports tournaments, but you will most likely see or hear it in person, on TV, or online during March Madness.

In March Madness, the Final Four are the teams that emerge out of the Elite Eight, winning the South, Midwest, West, and East regions in a bracket. The Final Four play during the third weekend of March Madness at the same location where the championship game (which changes yearly) is played (people may also refer to the location as the Final Four).

The two teams that win their Final Four games go on to play each other in the championship game. People may also write it as "Final 4," but that spelling is not as common.
