Officially, kosher is a designation that means food has been prepared in accordance with Jewish dietary law. However, people also use kosher as a slang term. In this context, kosher means acceptable, satisfactory, or legit.

Most often, people use the slang version of kosher when asking whether an action they're about to perform is a good and/or acceptable idea. For example, if your cousin Bryce is unsure about a contract he's about to sign, he may ask "Does this contract look kosher to you?"
