What does it mean to moss?

Relax

If you are being exta and your friend wants you to settle down and relax, he might say, "Dude, just moss. It will be OK." It is unclear who coined the term, but people have used it since the early 2000s, and it comes from moss (green plant) growing on stationary things like trees and shrubs.

People may use it in real life or see it in messages or online. For example, if you are worried about an upcoming test, your friend may text you, "u r gonna do great tomorrow. u studied a lot, now u need to moss and get some good sleep." Or, you might post an update on Facebook, "Finished my work, now gonna moss for the rest of the weekend.

If you hear or see people use moss in a football context, they are likely referring to the "mossed" slang term from prolific WR Randy Moss. In this sense, it describes when a player jumps over another player to catch the football.
