Rundown

What does rundown mean?

Baserunner stranded between two bases

A baseball term for when a baserunner is stranded between two bases and the fielders are trying to tag him for an out.

A rundown occurs when a runner is stuck between two bases and 2 or more fielders are on each side trying to tag him out. Since the fielder must tag the runner with the ball he must throw it back and forth with the other fielder in order to get closer to and eventually tag the runner. The baserunner cannot run out of the baseline or else he is out. If executed properly, the baserunner will always be tagged out.

Example

Ortiz made a dumb mistake and was caught in a rundown for the final out of the game
