An untamed and unkempt person

A nerfherder is an untamed, unkempt, and uneducated individual, which is similar to the redneck term. It is used as an insult by Princess Leia towards Han Solo in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back (Episode V).

Leia's exact words are "Why you stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking Nerfherder!" In Star Wars, nerfs are similar to cattle, sometimes called space cows, that travel in herds and are raised for meat and milk on many different planets throughout the Star Wars galaxy. The term may also appear as "nerf herder."
