An anti-masker is someone who is against wearing masks, whether it be for their child or themself. It became a very controversial term in 2020 when anti-maskers refused to wear masks during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As COVID-19 spread around the world in 2019 and into 2020, governments initiated lockdowns and mask mandates to curb the spread of the virus. Whenever people traveled to areas with other people, such as stores or gas stations, they were required to social distance and wear masks.
As the pandemic wore on, anti-mask sentiment increased. Anti-maskers became defiant, refusing to wear masks, sometimes becoming violent in their defiance.
There are various reasons anti-maskers don't like masks, including a belief that it infringes on their freedom, don't believe masks are effective, or are vaccinated and no longer willing to wear a mask. Some ant-maskers are also heavy conspiracy theorists, believing that covid is not real and just a ploy by the government to control the population.
