BBS

1. What does BBS stand for?

Be back soon

When you need to depart from an in-person or virtual gathering for a brief moment, you can message "BBS" to the gathered members. People most often message it online or in a text.

BBS is similar to the BRB, BBL, and BBIAB acronyms, which are all used to tell a person that you are leaving but will be back soon. It's debatable how long "soon" actually is so you may need to clarify with the person leaving if soon is 10 minutes, 10 hours, or 10 days.

For older people, the BBS acronym may also refer to a "Bulletin board system." In this context, BBS was an early way to communicate with computers using a modem and a phone line connection.

Example

I have to pick up the kids now, bbs!
