A boomer is an adult born roughly between the years 1946 and 1964. It comes from "baby boomer," which was coined to refer to the booming increase of babies in the U.S. after World War II. Additionally, boomers born between 1954 and 1965 may also be called Jonesers.
While people sometimes referred to baby boomers as "boomers," it became mega popular in 2019 when the "OK Boomer" meme went viral on social media. Subsequently, it became a catchphrase for young people to say "yeah, whatever" to older adults' antiquated ideas.
People may use boomer without any negative connotation, but when they do, it means the person is old and most likely holds outdated beliefs. As a response to the emergence of OK boomer, older people coined the "OK Millennial" phrase as a clapback for older adults to use.
