A boomer is an adult born roughly between the years 1946 and 1964. It comes from "baby boomer," which was coined to refer to the booming increase of babies in the U.S. after World War II.
Boomer became a popular way to refer to old people in 2019 when the "OK Boomer" meme went viral on social media. It became a catchphrase for young people to say "yeah, whatever" to older adults' antiquated ideas.
In general, boomer is seen as a negative descriptor since it means the person is old and most likely holds outdated beliefs. As a response to the emergence of OK boomer, older people coined the "OK Millennial" phrase as a clapback for older adults to use.
