Gamers use the word broken to discuss overpowered (OP) game elements and mechanics. Broken elements wreck a game's balance, forcing players to either use the broken element to its fullest potential or lose to players who do.
For example, in Magic: The Gathering (MTG), the Planeswalker Oko, Thief of Crowns was generally accepted to be broken. To prevent every game of MTG from turning into an Oko-fest, Wizards of the Coast banned Oko in most competitive formats.
As you might expect, gamers tend to dislike other players who overuse broken elements, as they make playing a game less fun. However, what is or isn't broken is often subjective - because one gamer's cheese may be another's favorite strategy.
