Cape

What does cape mean on forums and social media?

To defend someone's actions, often undeservedly

To cape for someone means to cover for them, protect them, or defend their actions. It is meant to convey the image of a social media superhero swooping in and deflecting or countering other posters' accusations.

However, the term caping is usually applied sarcastically, to a person who is defending unwise, bad, or out-of-touch behavior. If someone claims you are caping for someone, they likely think you should not be defending the other person's actions.

Example

"Listen, Mark Zuckerberg just didn't understand how big Facebook would get. He's changing things now."
"Stop caping for Zuck. He really doesn't deserve it."
