What does early game mean?

A gaming term that refers to the early stages of a game.

In Hearthstone, the term often refers to the first 3 to 4 turns in a game, but depends on the skill of the players, which lengthens or shortens the early game.

In StarCraft 2, early game begins when the match begins and ends roughly around 7 to 11 minutes, which is when a player has built the army for his strategy. This period may last longer or shorter depending on the skill of the player. The early game period is where decisions and mistakes have the most influence on how a player will perform during the game.
