Festivus is a made-up secular holiday celebration that comes from the 1990s sitcom Seinfeld. The term was first introduced to pop culture in the 1997 episode called "The Strike."
The celebration was created by Frank Costanza (played by Jerry Stiller), who is George Costanza's father in the show. It was created as an alternative to Christmas to opt out of the pressures of the holiday season. Some of the Festivus practices include a Festivus dinner, Festivus pole, feats of strength, airing of grievances, and sometimes, Festivus miracles.
