On Twitter, "H/T" is an acronym for "hat tip," which acknowledges someone's work. For example, a person may tweet, "Check out this map on the distribution of wealth in America (h/t @example)," to give credit to the user.

Origin of H/T

The origin of H/T dates back to at least the 19th century when men would tip their hats to greet each other. Then, as blogging emerged in the 1990s and 2000s, writers began using HT and H/T as shorthand to refer to others' contributions to online work. In the 2010s, h/t became popular on Twitter, as users included it in their tweets to give credit to or compliment other users' work.
