IF

What kind of eating pattern is IF?

Intermittent fasting

Intermittent fasting (IF) is an eating pattern where a person toggles between eating and fasting (altogether not eating or partially not eating). The practice became popular among fitness and health enthusiasts in 2018.

Fasting may be done for various reasons, including as a weight-loss scheme or religious purposes. IF enthusiasts believe that fasting intermittently is a more natural approach to eating than consistently 3-4 meals a day.

There are various approaches to IF, with some of the more popular ones lasting for 24 hours or more. Most enthusiasts split up their week with multiple fasting periods breaking up their eating periods.

Before fasting for long periods, it is vital to consult a health specialist about a suitable plan.
