Inspo is short for "inspiration" or "inspiring." It is used to describe people or things that inspire or motivate some type of action, like changing your hair color after seeing the hair color on someone else.
Inspo is abbreviated similarly to convo (conversation) and rando (random). And while the abbreviation dates back to at least the mid-2000s, it didn't gain prominence until the mid-2010s.
It is commonly used on social sites, like Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok. It may refer to the energy required to just get out of bed and go to work or school, or it may be more specific inspiration related to fashion (a slammin outfit) or fitness, aka "fitspo" (exercising).
Social media influencers thrive on sharing "inspo" content that will get clicks, views, and follows from Internet users. If you have ever scrolled the newsfeed on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or TikTok, you most likely have encountered some type of inspo content. Due to this content's prevalence, these kinds of posts have crossed into clickbait territory.
