A keeper league is a fantasy sports league that lasts more than one season and where owners keep their players from the previous year. It is different from the normal and more popular format where the league lasts only one season.
Keeper leagues exist in fantasy football, baseball, basketball, hockey, and pretty much any other sport that involves players. The number of players that are kept for the next year depends on the league rules. Most leagues allow the owner to keep around half his team. However, dynasty leagues allow you to keep all your players unless you want to drop one or more to draft incoming rookies or other free agents. By allowing you to keep players, you can draft and manage your team more like an actual sports team.
