Laning

What does laning mean?

Staying in a lane

In MOBAs, laning means to be assigned to a lane. For example, your teammates in League of Legends (LoL) or DOTA2 may tell you "you're laning bot." This means you're assigned to the game map's bottom lane.

When laning, your primary goals are to ensure your lane's towers don't fall, to kill as many creeps as you can, and to prevent opposing champions from killing creeps or pushing your lane. Typically, at some point during a match, your team will ask you to switch from laning solo (or, in some cases, as a duo) to joining a coordinated attack or defense in a single lane. This is often referred to as the "end of the laning phase."

Example

I'm terrible at laning alone; can I go bot with Mike?
A LoL player who wants to level up their laning
