MMA

Someone you're linking up with IRL may use MMA to mean "meet me at." You're most likely to receive this version of MMA as part of a chat or text message, sent by a friend or family member you're planning to see later.

For example, if you and your friend Todd are planning to see a movie, Todd may text you "Want 2 MMA my place, n we can drive over 2gether?" This means Todd wants to meet up at his house, so you can carpool to the movie.

Mixed martial arts, or MMA, is a sport in which two combatants fight each other using a variety of punching, kicking, and grappling moves. While various forms of MMA have been around for decades, the term was first coined in 1993, by a TV critic reviewing the first Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The UFC went on to become the world's premier MMA league. It currently hosts hundreds of MMA events each year. So, when people are discussing MMA, they're likely referring to events being run and promoted by the UFC. (On rare occasions, people may instead be referring to other MMA events or "learn MMA" classes.)
