MMPR

What does MMPR stand for?

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers

Among 90s kids and Super Sentai enthusiasts, MMPR stands for Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers. The original Power Rangers TV show is now over 25 years old, but MMPR continues to impact pop culture via new (and re-released) Power Rangers TV shows, movies, video games, and toys.

Starring five superpowered teenagers with attitude, Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers premiered in 1993 and quickly became a pop culture phenomenon. Almost every American born in the late 1980s or early 1990s knows the phrase "It's Morphin' Time!," and while Power Rangers' popularity has ebbed over time, most MMPR fans' children have also likely watched a Power Rangers show of some kind.

However, MMPR refers to only the original American Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers show. That show lasted three seasons, incorporating footage, costumes, and Zords from three separate Japanese Super Sentai shows before morphing (*wink*) into Power Rangers Zeo.

From there, the franchise continued (and continues) releasing new series. In some of those, the original MMPR cast members have reprised their roles. Today, old and new MMPR fans alike can continue to purchase Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers-branded toys, comic books, and video games. The original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers TV show may have ended in 1996, but it seems MMPR will never die.
