Nonpology

What is a nonpology?

A non-apology

A nonpology is an insincere or forced apology. It often blames a person or group of people for being offended.

People in the limelight, such as celebrities, athletes, and politicians, often give nonpologies. For example, if a famous actor is accused of misbehavior, they may offer a nonpology for PR reasons or to avoid getting canceled instead of showing genuine remorse.

While celebrities are the most common nonpologists, anyone can issue a nonpology. For example, if a friend says, "I'm sorry you felt that way," you just received a nonpology.
