OGS

What is OGS?

Old guy syndrome

When an old man does things like blaming farts on the dog or constantly falling asleep in his recliner, he may be suffering from "OGS," which stands for "old guy syndrome." It is technically not a medical condition, just a stage of life that most men go through.

What are the origins of OGS?

OGS has existed since men first walked the earth. However, it has gone by different names, such as "old man syndrome," "old fart," "GOM," or just "cranky old man." The actual OGS acronym did not become popular as shorthand for "old guy syndrome" until the 2000s, when Internet lingo and texting became more commonplace.

When does OGS begin?

The onset of OGS depends on the era you live in because life expectancy has greatly increased as time has progressed. For example, men in the early centuries of human civilization typically would experience OGS in their 20s or 30s, but nowadays, it typically begins in the late-50s. Keep in mind that men may display traits of OGS at any age, depending on their maturity level.

Examples of OGS behavior

OGS behavior depends on the era. For example, OGS may include hitting things with a club in the caveman days or sitting on the front porch yelling at kids to get off the lawn in the 1960s. Whereas now, OGS may involve ranting about politics while watching 24/7 news, complaining about "kids these days," saying "huh?!?" or "what?!?" a lot, comparing everything to the "good ole days," spilling food on his shirt and not noticing it, or trying to fix the lawnmower that is always breaking down.

Example

Wow, dad's gone headfirst into OGS territory since I've been here last
Yeah, he can no longer make it through a whole movie without going to the bathroom or falling asleep

Grumpiness is typically an OGS hallmark
