What does OT3 stand for?

One true threesome

Shippers and superfans use the acronym OT3 to discuss their "one true threesome" - which is a throuple that a fan really wants to see get or stay together. Many OT3s exist only in fans' headcanon, though some exist in-story.

Where did OT3 originate?

OT3 is a variant of the more-popular OTP ("one true pairing") acronym. It began being used in the early 2000s, by those who are okay with polyamory and would prefer that their favorite love triangles resolve their issues and choose to become a 3sum.

The following groups of characters are often depicted as OT3s:

  • X-Men's Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Wolverine
  • Pirates of the Carribean's Jack, Will and Elizabeth
  • The Witcher's Geralt, Jaskier, and Yennefer
  • Harry Potter's Harry, Ron, and Hermione
  • Stranger Things' Nancy, Jonathan, and Steve
