Roast

What does it mean to roast someone?

To disrespect

Roast is when you insult someone so fiercely that the recipient feels as if they are being roasted over an open fire. Roasting someone is the same thing as "burning" or "dissing" a person, and typically happens in front of other people.

While people may unwittingly roast someone, they typically roast others on purpose to embarrass them regarding their appearance or behavior. People may roast others in good fun, like when friends are hanging out poking fun at each other, or they may do it to actually tear down an individual, such as a bully who picks on others.

Examples of roasts

Here are some good examples of roasts you can use to clapback at people:

  • "If I throw a stick, will you leave?"
  • "I’d give you a nasty look but you’ve already got one."
  • "How many licks until I get to the interesting part of this conversation?"
  • "Your face makes onions cry."
  • "Don’t be ashamed of who you are. That’s your parents’ job."
  • "I thought of you today. It reminded me to take out the trash."
  • "I don’t know what your problem is, but I’m guessing it’s hard to pronounce."
