Skrt is pronounced "skirt," and comes from the sound rubber tires make on the pavement when they suddenly come to a stop. It was popularized in the late-2010s by rappers, like Gucci Mane, Lil Uzi Vert, and 2 Chainz.

How do I use skrt?

People, often teenagers and young adults, may use skrt in various ways, but it generally is connected to when something rapidly changes direction, like when a car immediately stops, quickly accelerates, or turns sharply while driving. People may say it out loud, typically in a high-pitched tone, or they may use it online, especially on social media, and in text messages.

Examples of when it is used include when a text conversation gets awkward, when you are swerving a thirsty person, when you want your BFF to recap an interesting detail she blew past when recounting her date, or when you just are really pumped about something. You may also see "skrt" spelled with extra "r"s, which is typically done to add emphasis to their exclamation.
