Table Setter

What does table setter mean?

A player who gets on base so other hitters can hit him in

A table setter is a baseball hitter whose primary job is to get on base so other hitters can hit him in. This type of player usually runs fast but does not have a lot of hitting power.

A table setter tries to get on base any way he can, whether it be through a hit, walk, or error, so hitters with more power can score him. Table setters are often leadoff or No. 2 hitters because they can get on base for the No. 3 and 4 hitters, which are usually the best on the team.

Example

"He's been a great table setter so far this season as he has scored 35 runs already."
