The Sidewalk Rule

What is the sidewalk rule on TikTok?

Your man should walk on the street side of the sidewalk

Female TikTokers use the sidewalk rule to judge whether their current bf is a keeper. To satisfy the sidewalk rule, when a couple is walking down the sidewalk, the bf (or hubby, or other man) must walk on the side of the sidewalk closest to traffic. This chivalrous gesture "protects" the gf from passing cars and other street stuff. (Back in the 16th century, when the sidewalk rule originated, waste in the street actually made this a big deal.)

According to TikTok and Twitter, boys who don't unconsciously follow the sidewalk rule aren't worth keeping around, because they aren't protective enough. Of course, if you want your man to walk on the other side of the sidewalk, you could try asking him, instead of just kicking him to the curb.
