DTM

On social media, people use "DTM" to describe things that are too much, which may be positive (e.g., overwhelmingly wonderful) or negative (e.g., overwhelmingly annoying). While people typically use DTM on social sites, such as Snapchat, TikTok, and Twitter, they may also use it when messaging.

When used positively, it describes a person going above and beyond expectations. For example, if someone throws a birthday party for their friend that features catered food, elaborate decorations, and a photo booth, they are "DTM."

When used negatively, it describes a person acting too high maintenance (similar to being extra). For example, if a person is complaining too much about a first-world problem (FWP), friends may remark, "omg, u r dtm rn."

When someone wants to meet in real life, they may send "DTM" in a text or online message. For example, if you meet someone online and get to know them through messages, you may want to eventually meet them in person and send "DTM?" to ask them if they are open to meeting.

People often send DTM to romantic interests they may have met on a dating site or social media. However, people may use it for platonic interests, as well. DTM is similar to the LMIRL and MIRL acronyms and may accompany the ASL and ASLP acronyms.
