Four-peat

What is a four-peat in sports?

Winning a championship four times in a row

A four-peat (or "fourpeat") is when a team wins a championship four consecutive times. For example, the New York Islanders achieved a four-peat in the 1980s when they won the NHL championship (Stanley Cup) from 1980 to 83. Four-peat is an extension of the three-peat term made famous by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 1980s.

People often refer to championships a player or team has won four times in a row as a four-peat. However, a four-peat may also be achieving other impressive types of victories four times in a row, such as earning the MVP trophy, winning an MLB division four times in a row, or beating your father-in-law in Cribbage four times in a row. You will likely see sports fans and analysts use four-peat in major sports leagues, such as the NFL, MLB, NHL, and NBA.
