Mossed

What does mossed mean in football?

Catching a football over another player

In football, mossed is when a player (typically a WR) jumps over a player (likely a DB) to catch the ball. The name comes from the super athletic WR Randy Moss, who would often jump high in the air to catch balls over defenders.

You may see mossed online (especially on social media) or hear it used by fans, analysts, and announcers. For example, a fan may post on Twitter, "Jefferson just mossed three defenders in the end zone! I can't believe it" ESPN also popularized mossed with a segment highlighting the best mossed moments in football.

Example

Brown just mossed the 2 DBs for a 30-yard gain!
Whoa!
