Base Race

What does base race mean?

Simultaneous attacks on enemy bases

Base race is a term used in video games such as Defense of the Ancients (DOTA) and StarCraft 2 (SC2) where each team focuses on attacking the enemy base. The first team to deal the final death blow to the enemy's base first wins.

In DOTA, the traditional path to victory is to kill the enemy team and then damage their base until the team forfeits or the ancient falls. Base race employs the opposite strategy where the team foregoes killing the enemy and focuses their efforts on destroying the enemy's bases. When both teams adopt this method, a race begins to see who can destroy the other team's base first. This strategy, as you can imagine, is the most exciting and intense strategy to play and watch.

In StarCraft 2, a base race is when a player attempts to destroy their opponent's base while their own base is being destroyed. This typically happens when each player's main army is on the opponent's side of the map.
