An uneducated Southerner

A redneck is an uneducated southerner. It is a disparaging term that refers to uneducated and usually poor people in the southern portion of the United States.

The term originated in the late 1800s and was used to describe white workers who labored in the field. They spent all day working in the sun getting sunburnt, or red, necks. This term is often used to attack the intelligence of people from the South, especially Southern political conservatives.

Example

"Welcome to Georgia, the land of the rednecks!
Wow, that's kinda harsh, don't use stereotypes.
Everybody who condemns people of using stereotypes are stupid.
Do you ever listen to yourself talk?"
