EOF

What does EOF stand for in IT?

End of file

Techies use EOF to stand for "end of file." Most often, this acronym refers to the last point in a digital file. When a program returns EOF, it means there's no more data to be read from the current file.

However, some cheeky techies also use EOF as a sign-off, at the end of chat and email messages. When you see EOF at the end of a chat or email message sent by a developer or IT worker, it likely means the person has no more "data" to share with you.

Example

Just keep parsing the text until you reach the EOF. Then terminate the loop
A developer who wants to know more about EOF
