EPS

What does EPS stand for?

Earnings per share

An acronym for one of the most popular metrics in investing that is a measurement of a company's profit.

The EPS is calculated by using a company's profit, subtracting dividends, and then dividing that number by the number of shares outstanding. The metric is helpful to compare different companies but should not be used as the sole factor for making an investment decision. U.S. companies are required to report the EPS for each major category of their income statements.

Example

"Our EPS has declined in each of the past 3 years, we need to change that!"
