ERE

What does ERE mean regarding relationships?

Established relationship energy

ERE is the energy associated with being in an established (or existing) romantic relationship. It is a step beyond the new relationship energy (NRE) one feels at the very beginning of the relationship.

When you enter the ERE phase, the NRE has faded, and partners begin to get a clearer understanding of their positive and negative qualities. Their romantic feelings may dissipate, and they likely must put more effort into the relationship to make it work.

There are good things that come with ERE, too. For example, partners typically feel more secure and comfortable with each other and have a deeper understanding of their likes and dislikes.

You may see ERE in various contexts, including messages, relationship forums (including polyamorous ones), and social media. For example, a person may post a meme in a forum with the caption, "Gotta love that ERE."
