L4D

What does L4D stand for in gaming?

Left for Dead

Gamers use L4D as shorthand for the game Left for Dead. In this first-person shooter (FPS), four players must work together to survive a zombie apocalypse.

Valve released the original L4D in 2008. Most notably, the game uses a feature called the AI Director to procedurally determine when and how enemies appear, making each playthrough just a bit different. In 2009, Valve released a sequel to L4D, called Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2).
