3. What does HMP stand for in sports?

Half marathon pace

Runners use HMP to refer to their "half marathon pace." This is the pace the runner can comfortably run at while completing a half marathon (13.1 miles). For example, a runner's HMP might be 6 miles per hour, meaning the runner would finish a half marathon in roughly 2 hours and 12 minutes.

Often, a runner's HMP factors in a slower warm-up and cool-down mile at the start and end of a race. So racers are usually running just a bit faster than their HMP.

While training, runners sometimes run at variations of their HMP. For example, a runner might run a training run at 90% of their HMP, because they don't want to overdo it before they actually race.
