A term used in baseball and softball to describe a play where three outs are recorded.
There are a variety of triple plays that can happen in baseball, but the most common way is when there is a runner on first, second, and third base because there is a force out at each base, which increases the chances for more outs. Triple plays are a lot less common than double plays because there has to be 0 outs, at least two runners on the bases, a well placed hit ball, and good defense since there is less room for error.
